Gift Aid

If you’re a UK taxpayer, you can increase the value of your charity donations by choosing to donate through ‘Gift Aid’.

Gift Aid allows Restart Orkney to claim from the Inland Revenue the basic rate of income tax on a donation made by tax paying donors.

How it works

When you donate, the charity will ask you whether you want donate through Gift Aid – if you do, they’ll be able to claim back the tax you originally paid at the basic rate of 20%.

For Example

If you donate a sofa which raises £20, we can claim £5 from HMRC (the Inland Revenue), making your donation go even further
At no cost to you.

How it Helps

The extra money from gift aid will help us be able to offer our free collection service and to achieve our Aims & Objectives such as supplying local people with low cost furniture and house household goods, Providing Supported employment to individuals who are not yet in the labour market, Reducing the amount off furniture that goes in to landfill. During 2011-12 we recycled 3067 items of furniture and diverted 78 tonnes from landfill - Gift aid will help us achieve higher amounts in 2013-14
