The Archives New Zealand with a fine effort completed digitizing the records of the nearly 10% of the total population who served overseas in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the Great War before the centenary of its start.  It is now possible to download online the service records of all NZEF soldiers who did not also serve in World War 2.  The service records of four members of the Turfus family of Firth and Otago, along with photos of them which were published in The Orcadian during 1917, have been used as the basis of a biography giving the background of the death of William Turfus, who is commemorated on the Firth Memorial.  It has been added as a Word biography to the Firth section of the website, or can be downloaded direct as a pdf using the link below.
