S/6370 Lance Corporal James Henry Craigie of Deerness

Two Orcadian soldiers, Richard Dick of Sanday and James Shearer of Stronsay, were killed in action during the famous advance of 8th Seaforth Highlanders on 25th September 1915 to capture Loos village and push on to Hill 70 beyond.  The story of two Seaforths from Deerness who died of wounds received there, James Craigie on the 26th and Thomas Foubister on the 27th, has been available for some years as a Word document in the Deerness section of the website.  It can be downloaded direct as a pdf using the link below.
