Stromness Memorial new names added

As part of the Great War centenary upgrade of Stromness War Memorial, the Community Council agreed to add six new names to the memorial.  All six men were born in Stromness, but had left the town (three for Australia, one to New Zealand and two to elsewhere in the UK) some time before their wartime deaths, which were uncovered by recent research on behalf of the Royal British Legion, Scotland.  RNVR Artificer William Shepherd's name has been added to the top of the World War 2 list on the west face.  New Zealand Rifleman John Linklater and Australian Private Robert Linklater have been added to the bottom of the names on the north face panel.  A new panel has been added below on that face, with the names of Australian Private Alfred Clouston, Gordon Highlander James Johnston and Australian John Manson.  The Memorial photos and list details in the Stromness section of the website have been updated to show the refurbished memorial and new names.  The updated memorial list details can be downloaded as a pdf using the link below.
