420737 Private James W Harvey of Sandwick

Today is the centenary of the death in the Battle of the Somme of James W Harvey of Sandwick.  James emigrated to Canada in 1911 and he was working as a grain inspector when joined the 43rd Battalion forming in Winnipeg at the end of 1914. James was killed in desperate fighting in Zollern Graben Trench near Mouquet Farm on 20th September 1916, when James Barron of Kirkwall also died in the fighting.  A biography of James Harvey is available as a Word document in the Sandwick section of the website, or it can be downloaded direct as a pdf using the link below.
