OMG launches its Manifesto for the 2017 election

The Orkney Manifesto Group has launched its manifesto for the Orkney Islands Council election to be held on 4 May. The document can be accessed here.

Convener of the OMG, Councillor Rachael King comments “As ever, the OMG believes that voters should know in some detail what they are voting for, not just who they are voting for. The clue is in our name! The manifesto says a lot about where we stand on the issues facing Orkney, as well as taking a backward look at some of the decisions we have supported over the term of the council now drawing to a close.

“In writing our manifesto, we have drawn on our combined experience, gained over the past 5 years from attending community council meetings, parent council meetings, stands at the County and West Mainland shows, attending specialist forums covering digital communications, transport and renewable energy, voluntary sector AGMs, OIC consultation and engagement drop-in sessions and various other public meetings. We have also fielded representations and queries from constituents.

"We welcome input from all forums and individuals who wish to inform and contribute to our policies.

"We hope that as many electors as possible do read and consider our manifesto, especially those in the wards where the OMG has a candidate.”

In addition to Cllr King, who is seeking re-election in the West Mainland, the Orkney Manifesto Group is also fielding Cllr John Richards, who is standing again for Kirkwall West and Orphir.
