FRINGE EVENTS 2018
Wednesday 11th April 2018
Birsay Fringe Event
On a fairly dull but decent evening, a J & V Coaches bus was packed to capacity and headed towards Birsay with our own Mother and daughter team as guides. What a super tour Dawn and Kathleen gave us as we took the long route to Birsay past the Standing Stones, over to Skaill Bay and onwards to the Birsay Hall. A lovely hot meal was waiting for us prepared by the Birsay ladies. Dancing got underway quickly and Kirkjuvagr Ceilidh Band led a very lively programme of dancing. At half time the committee of the hall treated us to a homemade supper which truly revived dancers for the second half of the dancing. Many thanks to Birsay Hall committee for the warm welcome and the super evening – we will be back next year!

Orkney Quadrilles, Lancers and Eightsome Reel Afternoon Workshop
A small but enthusiastic group of dancers congregated at the St Magnus Centre in Kirkwall for a super workshop lead by Lorna Fotheringhame with music by David Bowen. Lorna put us through our paces in the traditional Orkney Quadrilles, Lancers and the Eightsome Reel. We all had a thoroughly super time.
In the evening we danced the Eightsome Reel at the Rendall Fringe Event – so good to see this, one time very popular dance, on the floor once more.
Rendall Fringe Event
A warm welcome was given to all dancers as they arrived at the Rendall Hall for the second Fringe Event of 2018. Their Chairman welcomed us back and in no time at all dinner was served and eaten then everyone was on the floor dancing to the David Bowen Trio. There was a perfect number of people in this lovely hall including a group of ‘younger’ enthusiastic dancers willing to give anything a go. At half time we had a break for supper and again we sampled the lovely baking from the committee washed down by tea or coffee. All too soon we were boarding the bus back to Kirkwall on a really bonny night. Many thanks to the Rendall CA committee for providing this super evening with a warm and friendly atmosphere! See you again next year!
