We welcome you to our church and are glad that you have come to St Margaret’s for your wedding. We hope that you have an enjoyable day and that all your preparations run smoothly.
Before a minister can marry a couple a wedding schedule needs to be obtained which needs to be at the church on the day. A marriage schedule can be obtained by going to the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages and getting the necessary forms to fill in. These have to be sent in at least six weeks before the wedding. In the week before the wedding you need to return to that office to get the marriage schedule. Without the marriage schedule, which is the legal document signed as part of the ceremony, no marriage can be performed. http://www.orkney.gov.uk/Service-Directory/M/Marriages_2.htm
As part of the ceremony music can be played by an organist that the minister will organise or other musicians that you may arrange. Advice on suitable classical pieces of music can be given and/or hymns that you may wish to sing. There is a charge for the organist of £30 (£60 if a video recording is being made).
There is no charge for the services of the minister but there is a charge for use of the church of £85.00 and to the organist. Please make cheques payable to South Ronaldsay and Burray Parish Church
You may wish to produce an order of service for the ceremony but church hymn books are also available. It is also possible to display hymns and photos on a television screen via a laptop. Enclosed is the usual order of service for the ceremony but other things can be added in discussion with the minister.
A rehearsal for the ceremony can be arranged to take place sometime in the week before the service.
Some couples may wish to get married in St Peter's and this can also be arranged.
‘and I pray that Christ will make his home in your hearts through faith. I pray that you may have your roots and foundation in love,’
