Safeguarding is one of the key challenges facing the Church. Harm or abuse in any context at any time is abhorrent. Harm or abuse within the Church is an affront to our faith and our doctrine. It is everyone’s responsibility therefore to guard against the risk of harm or abuse happening and to respond appropriately to any situation which may arise. The Church of Scotland has a zero tolerance approach to harm or abuse of people: any type or level is unacceptable. Abuse includes physical, emotional, sexual and financial. It can also mean neglect. Anyone can cause harm. It can happen anywhere.
