The Kirk Session agreed a new mission statement for the congregation. It has three points.
To know Jesus – “And eternal life means to know you, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ, whom you sent.” John 17.3
To live Jesus – “So then, my friends, because of God's great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer.” Romans 12.1
To share Jesus – “Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples: baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28.19-20
How do we know come to know Jesus?
By sharing our daily lives with him, turning to him in the hard times and in the good times. By coming together in worship Sunday by Sunday, in prayer and by studying the Bible together.
Prayer – Prayer is the bedrock on which our life of faith and witness is built. It would be good, if as a congregation, we engaged in the Try Praying campaign - http://www.trypraying.co.uk and all worked at prayer being a bigger part of our lives, starting and ending the day with prayer if we can.
How do we live Jesus –
by all the things that we collectively and individually do to serve our communities.
What do we do just now?- Peedie Pandas, Guild, Braeburn coffee mornings and services. Involvement in local groups – bowling and golf club. Cromarty Hall, Pantomimes, Bingo, Marengo centre lunch club. (Other things that I have missed?)
Is there more that we could do collectively and individually? (Though it’s not just about ‘doing’. It’s also about ‘being’. Being in God’s presence and finding moments to contemplate that.)
How do we share Jesus –
What do we do just now to share Jesus? - Our weekly worship and Sunday Club and the occasional special services that we have.
Assemblies in school. Lent lunches and short services.
Monthly coffee morning with the church open for personal prayer and contemplation.
What could we do to share Jesus? –
Messy Church once a month where we’d invite families to come along and share in a more active form of worship and possible meal together. Thursday evenings? (Need to check what else is on in the community on a regular basis.) Again would be good to involve the wider Christian community.
A monthly informal evening service using contemporary music and worship styles? - starting soon - Sunday at 6 on July 3rd
