We are a Church of Scotland Church who had been actively and prayerfully seeking a new Minister for our small and very friendly congregation of around fifty members which includes six elders and twelve congregational board members. Please feel free to read our Parish Profile to find out more about us and our island community.
Our services are held every Sunday morning at 11am when a warm welcome is extended to all, whether regular worshippers or those who attend occasionally or are visiting the island. Sunday Club operates from March to December (with a break during the summer holidays). A crèche is available for children of 9 years and under when Sunday Club is not running although children are welcome to stay in church throughout the service should they wish to do so.
Since we have been without a minister for some time we very much appreciate the efforts of local people, plus one gentleman from the Orkney mainland who has been ordained to the local ministry, who ensure services are held Sunday by Sunday.
As well as the normal Sunday services additional services are held at certain times of the year, especially at Easter and Christmas. Our ‘Carols by Candlelight’ is a special time on our church calendar and is well supported by members of the community as is the ‘Watchnight Service’ on Christmas Eve. We also support the Blythswood Shoebox Appeal each year.
During the year events such as occasional Sunday soup and sandwich lunches, picnic, parties and sales are welcome events in the community.
If you happen to travel our way, we extend a warm invitation to you to join us in worship and fellowship.
