U3A Photo Group 1 - March 2019

by Tim Wright - 20:57 on 27 March 2019

Thirteen of us made the trip up to Dounby today in rather cool, windy but ultimately dry conditions. An hour of intense photography was rewarded with rather more photo opportunities than we expected plus an excuse to peruse the shops as well.

A quick dash then to Hilary's for much needed hot drinks and the cakes fresh from Harray Stores. There we looked at the photos from the Orkney Museum trip from February. A fine selection they turned out to be with the back, almost spiral stairs, proving the most popular subject. Close behind was the Orkney Hood with and without added photographer's faces. Other items included a rusted tea pot, Coats of Arms, Ba's with humorous models, old worthies in old photos plus many of the Tankerness House gardens.

"Spring" was the project for the month and a number of variations were put forward. The standard Spring pictures of Daffodils, Crocuses and Snowdrops went well alongside the new born lamb photos. Others gave us springs from a lawn mower to free standing springs and a metal spring collection. Pictures of both young and older springing in the air were included, as was a bird jumping off a hot rock (or so it seemed). A great selection of photos from a bunch of hard working photographers.

Many thanks to Hilary for her kind hospitality at such short notice. It was much appreciated by all.

The next meeting is being arranged by Steve and will be on Wednesday 24th April, probably afternoon, and going to Burwick. The project theme for the month is "Flight" so plenty of planes, birds and kites to the fore I hope.

Keep clicking, Tim.
