About Eday 

Eday is located in the heart of the North Isles of Orkney, some 16 miles from Kirkwall, (1 hour 15 minutes by ferry). The Island is approximately 8 miles long by 2 miles wide with a population of approximately 150. 

Topographically Eday’s island landscape is very diverse ranging from sweeping sandy beaches and dunes to sheer cliffs, peat moors to productive farmland.

The main industry is agriculture. The main employment is with the Local Authority and the Community Co-operative shop. Tourism is a small but increasingly important part of the island economy. Shortly there is to be the reintroduction of a fish farm.

A daily ro-ro ferry runs to and from Eday to Orkney Mainland as does a once weekly air service. We have a thriving community owned shop, post office, visiting GP from Stronsay with resident Nurse Practitioner and an excellent primary school.
