Reverse Vending Machine
Very exciting times at Employability Orkney!!!
Over the past month we have been preparing our warehouse for the installation and launch of two reverse vending machines (RVMs). Employability Orkney is part of the pilot scheme for the new deposit return scheme coming to Scotland next year. The pilot scheme will be called Return And Recycle Orkney. Click this link to visit their website for more information and updates.
This pilot is designed to provide insights that will help shape the way Scotland’s deposit return scheme is rolled out to rural and island communities.
With every drink container (glass, PET plastic or cans) put through the RVM 5p will go towards Employability Orkney. In January other charities will be added to the donations list so you will be able to donate your 5p to other local charities as well.
Over the past couple of months, we have been working with Claudia Marshall from RVM Systems Limited UK to prepare for the RVMs being delivered to our shop and installed.
On Friday 4th November 2022 the pilot scheme was officially launched by Lorna Slater, minister for Circular Economy Scotland. This was great for our peedie charity and hopefully will promote recycling even more.
If you have any empty drink containers, pop down to Employability Orkney - Restart Orkney. Our staff will be happy to show you how easy the RVMs are to use.
This machine is strictly for drinks containers - It does not accept food containers.
