Things are looking very exciting for Orkney's traditional song in the future, with old songs coming to light for the first time in decades.  Even if you only like singing in the bath, this is the place to come for inspiration (and maybe even some techniques!).

First Songshare - a rip roaring success!

Woo hoo!

Our first Songshare went fantastically well!  It's always a bit worrying when you do the first of something new, as you never know how many folk will come but we had people of all ages attending.  At the height we had approximately 50 participants, though there were quite a few Songshop choir and Orkney Singers committee to boost the numbers.  A quick count around the workshop though showed that the majority were not Songshoppers or committee, but actual people, so a resounding success all round (I'm not saying that the Songshoppers or committee aren't people, you understand)!

The format of the event was an informal concert of songs by the Song Shop Trio (Aimee, Sarah Jane and Emily), some songs by Frank Keenan, followed by Brian Cromarty, and then the Song Shop Choir to finish off.  After a break, a cup of tea and a handful of biscuits, Aimee led the workshop to learn a new Orkney song, helped by Emily.

It was great fun, and a fabulous way to spend an afternoon.  There will be plenty more of these events to come, and everyone is very welcome to come along.  Come to them all, and you should have a fairly good repertoire of Orkney songs at the end of the project yourself!
