SANDAY SOULKA 2015

May 22nd - 24th
June 26th - 28th
July 31st - August 2nd

The Sanday Soulka group are delighted to announce the above dates for the Soulka Weekends during 2015. Below are a few highlights to whet your appetite. Keep checking www.sandaysoulka.org and the Soulka Facebook page for more information. Some events may be subject to change and there will certainly be more to add to each weekend.

The May weekend starts with Sanday being involved with The Orkney Folk Festival. As yet no acts are confirmed but keep an eye on the Orkney Folk Festival website for the latest news but going by past years, it promises to be a lively concert followed by an energetic dance. Saturday will see the Sanday Guide and Brownie Associations Annual Bring and Buy Sale, a new 'pro-am' golfing event and bowling for all ages. A whisky tasting masterclass will take place in the evening. Sunday will see the first Soulka Pet Show before local international athlete, William Sichel presents a talk on his life on Sanday. Titled Rabbits, Running and Wrinkles.....My Story So Far, it promises to be inspiring to all. Takeaway meals can then be consumed with monies raised being raised for the islands Christmas Tree Party for the children.

The June Soulka will see the return of a popular past event of the Island - a Variety Charity Concert and Dance. Many Island groups and individuals will have the chance to perform on stage. We aim to have a Car Treasure Hunt, Gin Tasting and live music. Radio Orkney's Dave Gray will be visiting to talk about life as an Orcadian voice on the radio amongst other things.

The last Soulka of the year - Food, Farming and Fishing is a permanent fixture in Sandays calendar. Friday sees the Agricultural Associations Annual Show Day - animals being judged outside whilst the Industrial Show takes place in the School Hall. Remember to keep your copy of the Show Schedule which was in the December Sanday Sound and be sure to produce even one or two things from it.
Saturday hosts the Sea-Angling Competition for seafarers and Sandcastle or Sand-Sculpture building for the land lovers. The very popular Home Brew and Homemade Wine Competition will return for now it’s third year. If you haven’t done so already there is still time to produce a prize-winning brew or wine.  To finish the year off we aim to have another incredible Orkney Feast.
