TIM'S BLOG JAN 15
by Tim Wright - 12:59 on 15 January 2015
Dear All,
The Orkney U3A Committee met today at Linden, Dounby. Amongst the items discussed were:
1 The New Member Leaflet.
This is now complete and will be passed to everyone joining the Orkney U3A. It explains about our U3A here, how it works plus the groups currently in operation. An email version will be sent to all the current members to see. Please forward it on to anyone you feel might be interested in becoming a member.
2 The draft General Meeting Programme for 2015.
This is in preparation but with some speakers' dates to be confirmed. A list of the next six months' speakers will be available to those paying their subscriptions at the AGM in March. We have decided to do away with the small cards that we gave out for renewal of subscriptions. The list will be on a sheet of paper instead. This gives us more flexibility in rearranging dates, times and speakers for the latter part of the season. A second sheet/update will be provided at the end of the summer. Please note that a number of the General Meetings will be on Tuesdays in future as we couldn't always get the Thursdays at the Library.
3 General Meeting payment.
It was decided that the General Meeting will cost £1.00 per person whether you have Tea/Coffee and a biscuit or not. This is to help cover the cost of the hire of the room as well as the tea, coffee, biscuits and our advertising of the meeting. This will start after the AGM in March.
4 All Scotland Meeting in Inverness.
A detailed set of reports were discussed about this meeting. Suffice it to say, further moves are mooted by the Scottish U3A to enable us to start Networking in various ways with our adjacent U3As. This will be in a similar way to the meeting that we hosted last June in Kirkwall. Another meeting is due to take place in March at which we will be represented and put our views forward. If you have any ideas, please let me or Hilary know.
5 The February Meeting
Please note that the February General Meeting is on TUESDAY 17th February and not on a Thursday. It is Rebecca Marr talking about Gunnie Moberg. You might like to visit the Gunnie Moberg Exhibition in the Orkney Museum which goes on until the end of Janurary before the talk. It is very good.
6 Blogs
New blogs have been added by the Music Appreciation Group and Scrabble Group on the Orkney U3A website on the Orkney Communities website. Other groups post regularly so it is a good way to see what is going on in the rest of the organization in Orkney apart from the General Meetings.
The next Committee Meeting will be on Tuesday 31st March.
All the best
Tim
