Photo Group One - November 2017
by Tim Wright - 16:27 on 22 November 2017
Twelve attended the pier in Burray to take photos today. The forecast was for dry and dull weather but it never stopped raining all the time we were in the area. We decamped to the Burray Hall where a hot coffee and biscuits warmed the soul on such a wet day. We looked at the photos from the last 9 years, lifted from the blog, that will form most of Photo Group 1 presentation at the Orkney U3A 10th Birthday party next April. If any others have photos that they would like included, please send no more that 10 to my email address or on a memory stick. They can be of any outing or project over the last 9 years. They do not need to be resized.
We also looked at photos from Inverary, Ullapool and did a couple of the old Photo Quizzes from the AGMs. The picture that defeated everyone was of St Andrew's Square in Edinburgh. It would seem that Orkney isn't part of Scotland really, if we can't spot our own capital !
Photos of Skaill and St Peter's Church were perused. Lots of lovely shots of raging seas in Skaill Bay including some very risky walkers out by the Hole of Rao just about to get a soaking. The Church was well documented, in and out, the oil lamps providing endless variations as did the Pulpit. However a lovely photo of the entrance door with just the right amount of sun was the pick of the bunch.
"Drink" provided multiple variations. It was amazing how much some people had in their sideboards although they denied that the bottles were all theirs ! There were many excellent drink labels, the best being a bottle of "Wobble Juice Cider". Other variations had people drinking, animals drinking mainly from mum and some very fancy glasses including one supposed reflection of a glass that wasn't. However, the glass of Rose in the foreground with a similar colour sunset behind was a beauty. Thanks to all for all the excellent and varied contributions.
The next meeting will be January 24th at 1.30 pm in Dounby. We will meet at the School Computer Room. Please bring cameras because if the weather is good, i.e. sunny and dry, we will take photos around Dounby. If it is wet, we will look at short presentations by members. So far Tom, Steve and Judy have offered but we can manage one more. The requirement is 50 slides max and 20 mins max on any subject from holidays, to interests, to rust. If no takers, then it will be 50 Windsurfing photos that wil , at least, be appreciated by one member.
The project this month is "A Winter Scene". This can include Christmas etc plus snow, frost, gales etc etc.
Keep clicking,
Tim
