Love Bomb from Dorset!
by Unknown - 22:09 on 09 February 2014
The following open letter to the Prime Minister was published on the Dorset Eye website. It is a response to the speech given by David Cameron in the Olympic Park in London on the 7th of February 2014, in which he invited the people of the UK to "love bomb" Scotland in defence of the Union.
If anyone in Orkney has actually been contacted and urged to vote No as a result of David Cameron's speech, Yes Orkney would be interested to hear about it!
"Dear Mr Cameron,
I read your little 'love bomb' at the Olympic Park about Scotland and how adorable we all are together and thought 'you cannot be serious, pass me a bucket!' And, of course, you're not, it's all just more hype, spin and patronising patriotism. Is all of us playing together like good boys and girls really what it's all about?
I loved the bit about the United Kingdom being our home and that you 'could not bear to see that home torn apart'. One might expect, with a divorce in the offing, for a meeting or two to take place to discuss the situation, but you steadfastly refuse to hold any discussion or debate with Alex Salmond like grown ups.
It is far too late for you to play big daddywaddy as I and so many other commentators have striven to make plain, your every move in these beleaguered islands is treacherous. You no more love Scotland than you do England, Ireland or Wales or else you would not be privatising the state and destroying the very foundations of a caring society and would certainly do something about that rabid dog in charge of the DWP and the anguish, despair and poverty that is overwhelming the country as a reward for us bailing out the banks.
You said 'If people vote yes in September, then Scotland will become an independent country. There will be no going back', A more childish threat I have yet to see. 'If it doesn't work out, there's no point coming crying to us.' Perleeze!
I want to pay particular attention to your saying that we should all get together to persuade Scotland to stay in the union and that we, the people, have a voice and 'do have an influence. Get on the phone, get together, email, tweet, speak' (you forgot letters by the way). If there is one thing that you and your government have made abundantly clear to us ,it is that you and your government pay no attention to our voice and work assiduously to remove all influence from us.
In dishing out socioeconomic disaster on the people of the UK, which has even seen the Red Cross launch a crisis food aid campaign for Britain, your words ring as hollow and empty as a cracked bell. My own, personal, message to Scotland would be to get out and count your fingers as you shut the door because heaven help you if you stay.
Keith Lindsay-Cameron"
