University study reveals anti-Yes bias in the media

A year-long study at the University of the West of Scotland has found a considerable anti-Yes bias in the news broadcasting of both STV and the supposedly impartial BBC. Newsnet Scotland reports that the No campaign benefitted by an overall ratio of 3:2.

Significantly, the study found many instances of pro-independence arguments being presented as the personalised wishes of Alex Salmond, with no such personalisation of the No side. There were also many more instances of anti-independence claims going unchallenged.

It is crucially important for people to understand that the sole purpose of a Yes vote is to give Scotland power over its own affairs, not to give power to Alex Salmond. It will be up to the people of Scotland to decide whether or not the SNP are re-elected to government following the referendum.

Yes Orkney encourages everyone to avail themselves of the facts, and employ critical thinking with regard to all news sources.
