Economic growth figures show Scotland is ready for independence

The latest publication of Scotland's quarterly economic report card has been welcomed by the pro-independence campaign.

Yes Scotland's Chief Executive says the figures, published by the Scottish Government today, show how Scotland is a country ready for independence and that a Yes vote is now needed to give the Scottish Parliament the 'powers to create better jobs' and to 'share the wealth we have more fairly'.
.
Mr Jenkins said: 'Scotland's economy has grown to record levels. With growth of 1% over the last quarter, the Scottish economy has now surpassed its pre-recession peak, underlining Scotland's economic strength and massive potential for future prosperity.

'Scotland is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, with abundant natural resources including major renewable energy potential, a skilled population that is the most highly-educated in Europe according to the ONS, and a wealth per head which is higher than the UK, France and even Japan.

'But for far too many the benefits of Scotland's huge wealth just aren't felt in our everyday lives - and that is why a Yes is so important. Only independence gives us the full economic powers we need to share the wealth we have more fairly and build on our prosperity by realising the massive as yet untapped potential of our people and industries.

'With Scotland's economy now the largest it has ever been, it is vital that we have control over all of Scotland's resources. A Yes means we will have the powers we need to create better jobs here in Scotland and invest in high quality public services for our people. With all of our assets and strengths, we can be confident in an independent Scotland's economic future - but only a Yes means we can make sure our vast wealth works better for our people.'
