A new section has been added to the website, accessed from the Memorials Index page. 90 Orcadians are known to have died in the war at sea in the Great War, 58 more in World War 2. The losses were almost equally shared by the Royal Navy, which battled to keep the sea lanes open, and the Merchant Navy, which manned cargo and passenger ships during the two conflicts. Three quarters of those who died have no known grave but the sea. Lists of Orcadians who are commemorated on the six major UK memorials covering the war at sea are on the website. All were visited this month and individual names photographed. Anyone wanting high def photos of memorials and/or names commemorated there should contact Brian Budge, using his email shown on the Memorials page.
