The boats carrying the troops for the Anzac landings on the west side of the Gallipoli peninsula in the early hours of 25th April 1915 were pushed further north than intended by strong currents.  The Australians in the first wave, and then the New Zealanders in the second, scrambled up the steep hills overlooking the beach-head, to be met by a determined Turkish counter-attack.  The story of William Brass, of Rendall and Canterbury who was almost certainly killed in the fierce fighting on the first day, can be seen as a Word document in both the Rendall and Kirkwall sections of the website.  William's story can also be downloaded direct as a pdf, using the link below.
