The Allied commanders at Gallipoli aimed to confuse the German and Turkish command by making landings in two areas of the peninsula, along with a feint French landing on the Asiatic coast and a Royal Naval Division feint attack at the northern end of the peninsula.  The dispersed British troops that landed on five beaches in the south at Cape Helles met fierce Turkish resistance on two of them.  James Moodie of Sanday was killed in the early hours of 26th April 1915 at Y Beach, in Turkish attacks against the soldiers and marines who had landed there.  His story is available as a Word document in the Sanday section of the website, also as a pdf that can be downloaded direct using the link below.
