8/231 Private Peter Linskill Johnston of Sandwick

Friday was the centenary of the death in a Birmingham Hospital of Peter Johnston of Sandwick.  Peter enlisted in New Zealand in August 1914 and travelled to Egypt and on to Gallipoli with the Otago Battalion.  He was seriously wounded in the groin and right thigh in a hopeless attack on a strong Turkish position at Anzac on 2nd May 1915.  Peter survived to reach hospital in Edgbaston, Birmingham, but died of his wounds on 4th September, aged 24.  His story is told in a Word document in the Sandwick section of the website, or can be downloaded direct as pdf using the link below.
