S/15836 Corporal James A Wishart of Kirkwall

Today is the centenary of the death from wounds in France of James Wishart of Kirkwall.  Jim had moved to Blairgowrie to live and work in a bank there, when joined the Cameron Highlanders in November 1914.  He recovered from wounds received in the 1915 Battle of Loos, but returned there and died of wounds received the evening before on 6th May 1916.  Jim was the second Orcadian soldier to die there that week, among the many who died in "routine trench warfare" during the Great War.  His biography has been added as a Word document to the Kirkwall section of the website, or can be downloaded direct as a pdf using the link below.
