S/10977 Private David Miller Dearness of Stronsay
Today is the centenary of the third major British attack in the 1916 Battle of the Somme. In the Battle of Flers-Courcelette, 49 tanks were attached (in their first use) to the eleven British divisions that tried to capture a significant part of the German 3rd Position. Six Orcadians were killed on the first day of the relatively successful offensive.
