Points Racing 2013

Results from Holm Sailing Club's Tuesday Evening points series are given below. These results are based on 30 races over thirteen evenings. No discards have been applied and boats which don't finish or don't compete in a race are scored 16 points for each race.

Six boats took part in the points racing on Tuesday 3 September, the last of the summer points racing series. The racing started with a fine Westerly breeze which shifted to the South West and strengthened. The first course was number 10 which was shortened due to the change in wind direction. Course 9 was used in the second race, providing a good upwind leg with opportunities for place changes.

Nine boats took part in the points racing on Tuesday 27 August. Course 10 was used in the fresh Westerly breeze, which was quite gusty close to the shore. Two races were held before the fading light brought the event to a close.

On Tuesday 6 August a fleet of four snipes raced for two races at Holm's Tuesday evening points series. Richard Lambert and John Williams led the fleet in the club boat Topaz.

On Tuesday 25 June the magic number of eight Snipes took to the water for racing in St. Mary’s for the summer points series. A drift around number 4 buoy then 5 and back in the first race resulted in a win for team Fiddlesticks, Micheal and Neil Foubister finishing well ahead of the rest of the fleet. In the second race the course was 5, 4 and back, Moonstone (Andrew Leslie and Joshua Brown) got off to a good start and emerged triumphant while Leighton Venables in Kontiki was close behind with 2nd place. There was a light and shifty South Westerly breeze.

On Tuesday 18 June eight Snipes took to the water for racing in St. Mary’s for the summer points series. A drift around number 5 buoy and back in the first race resulted in a win for team Topaz. In the second race the course was 5 and back, Fiddlesticks (Neil Foubister and Ewan Stevenson) was triumphant while Leighton Venables steered Jaws to a creditable 2nd place, with Emma Thomson as crew. The third race was longer, round buoy 5 then 1 and in. Fiddlesticks were once again victorious, with Jaws close on their heels. There was a light Westerly breeze in the evening’s three races.

Tuesday, 11 June saw eight Snipes racing in St. Mary’s for the summer points series. A fresh South Easterly wind saw the evening’s three races being held on Course 5. Good to see a new face, Owen Rendall, crewing for Alan Donaldson on Smurf. Neil Foubister's Fiddlesticks won all three races with Topaz not far behind, although Lee Thomson and Adrian Askew sailing Kontiki managed a second place in the third race.

Seven snipes raced in St. Mary's for the third evening of the Summer points sailing series on Tuesday 28th May. Two races were held, course 5 of the new course set. There was a moderately fresh South Easterly breeze. The wind eased during the evening, and turned more to the East. Smurf established a significant lead in the first leg and held on to the lead till the end; the next four finishers all finished within 20 seconds of each other. Moonstone won the second race in the slightly lighter race conditions.

On Tuesday 21st May eight snipes raced in St. Mary's for the second race of the Summer points sailing series. Three races were held, all windward leeward courses round marks 5 and 6. There was a fresh North Westerly breeze, which strengthened during the evening. Andrew Leslie's Moonstone won the first two races and were in the lead of the third race when they capsized and let most of the other boats past. Tic-Tac did not race.

On Tuesday 14th May eight snipes raced in St. Mary's for the first of the Summer points sailing series. Three races were held, the first two being course 6, suited to the moderate South Westerly breeze, the last race was a shortened course round mark four, then 5 and finish. Neil Foubister won all three races with Glen as crew, sailing the newly painted Fiddlesticks.
