Welcome to Holm Sailing Club

Holm Sailing Club welcomes new members, come and join us for fun sailing, training and racing. The Club operates from the pier in the village of St Marys, Holm, Orkney. Sailing takes place in the sheltered corner of Scapa Flow bounded by the islands of Lamb Holm, Glimps Holm and the famous Churchill Barriers. We share the water with Seals, Gannets and dolphins and all sorts of wonderful marine life.

Our keen racers are out on a Tuesday evening whilst our fun sailing members and learners are afloat on a Wednesday with a safety boat and experienced sailors on hand. Aside from sailing we organise social functions across the year and non sailors and parents of younger members are encouraged to come along.

To find out more or get involved please do fill out the contact form here and one of our committee members will contact you.

What sort of boats do we sail ?

The club has six Topper dinghies suitable for teaching youngsters and we also have six ILCAs (used to be called Lasers) with rigs to accommodate folk of differing stature and ability. In addition the club owns a Snipe class dinghy suitable for teenagers or adults.  Members also own Tasar class dinghies which are good for racing and intermediate learners.

The biggest racing fleet is the Snipe class who race as a single class whilst the ILCAs and Tasars race together using a timed system known as Handicap racing. Our members often take their boats to regattas across Orkney and sometimes beyond.
