The weather in this unseasonable summer has been unkind to most outdoor activities, and no one has suffered more than the yachtsmen.

The St. Margaret's Hope Regatta had to be postponed twice last week and in Holm although all the races took place on Saturdayt it had to be on a shorter course and the number of competing boats was much smaller than usual. Three of the races had only two entries each.

In spite of these adverse conditions it was a very successful regatta and those taking part enjoyed themselves a lot. The two mile triangular course, providing a reach, a beat and a run, inside the barriers had to be covered three times in each race to give a total course of six miles.

The regatta started with a race for the Rockets, five boats competing. Alkthough getting a poor start First Attempt (D. Drever) made this up in the first round and ran out an easy winner three minutes ahead of the next boat Corona (J. Laird).

This race was followed by one for the snipes, only two taking part, Viking (A. Flett) proved an easy winner over Zephyr (I. Manson). The third race, for centre board dinghies, also had only a two-boat entry. Saga (W. Groat) and Pomona (Erroll Bruce)

Not much separated them but Saga appeared to have the dge. In the second round First Attempt drew away and held her lead, increasing it in the third to cross the line first.

During the afternoon after the first four races a very excellent tea was served by the ladies' committee of the Holm Sailing Club. when competing crews and officials were entertained. Cups were presented at the Community Centre after the races and the regatta was followed by a very pleasant dance, with music from the Stromness Dance Band. Rockets
