Photography in Deerness
by Tim - 20:27 on 29 June 2011
What a great day to be out on the cliffs by the Gloup .Ten of us made the effort on a beautiful sunny afternoon .Some went and visited the archaeologists on the Brough and saw a Viking Longhouse being exposed. Others went and looked for flowers around the Gloup while others stared at the sea and were rewarded with views of Harbour porpoises seals and Gannets diving.Tea was taken at the recently opened " Deerness 100" exhibition. Many fine photos were perused of our rather dull day weatherwise at Marwick including birds, waves, fishermen's huts and Bunty crawling towards the cliff edge ."Rust ,Rot and Decay" produced some splendid grubbings from various rubbish dumps ,boat graveyards and even an abandoned coal mine ! Very well done all .
The next meeting is Wed July 27th at 2pm in Cromarty Square in St Margaret's Hope.We can stay in the Hope and walk around and look at the Blacksmith exhibition or if it is as sunny as today, maybe go over to my sands or to Hoxa.Tea to be taken in the Hope as I hear there is a new cafe there.
This month's theme is "Summer and Summer events ".With the Tall Ships and Stromness Shopping Week the West Mainlanders should not have to go far ! Bring the usual 5 or so 5x7 max size.
Thank you very much for all the photos for the U3A Visit from Edinburgh. Sally and I will now get on and try and get a represetative sample to put on display and to pass on on a cd .
