Scrabble Group

Latest  news of the U3A scrabble group-

 

WE still meet in  the Kirkwall Community Centre-every Friday-at 10 a m -and usually have three tables of 3-4 players-sometimes 4 tables-we are not very competitive,playing for fun and furthering our knowledge of vocabulary-

The Friday before Christmas we will have a lunch there after our usual session-

It is always full of laughter-as it is amazing just what unexpected words are  found-

Here are a few we found that were new (to some of us)

Varve-sediment in glacial laakes

Cere-swelling on a parrots beak

Zeiu-protein occuring in maize

Pye-book for finding church services

Yug-one of the 4 ages of mankind

Sucre-monetary unit of Equador

Nandy-type of ostrich

Wang-cheek bone

Thagi-thugee

Spawl-spit

Manet-remain on stage

Pawl-lever on a rachet
