by Glenys Alsop - 16:22 on 21 October 2019

David hosted the meeting on Monday, October 7th, where the theme (chosen by Ally) was “Music to take to a desert island”.  This choice produced the following very enjoyable and interesting mix:

Bruch:  “Violin Concerto No 1 in G Minor”;

Beethoven:  the “Cavatina” from his “String Quartet No 13, Op 130, in B flat major, played by the Alexander String Quartet;

Ennio Morriconi:  “Gabriel’s Oboe”, from the film “The Mission”;

“Fields of Gold”, composed and sung by Eva Cassidy;

Bach:  “Toccata and Fugue in D minor, played by the organist Christopher Herrick;

Vaughan Williams:  Thomas Allen singing “Linden Lea”;

Beethoven:  the last movement of his “Symphony No 9”;

“Life Short – Call Now”, composed and sung by Bruce Cockburn;

Elgar:  “Chanson de Matin, Op15, No 2;

Tallis:  “Spem in Alium”, performed by The Tallis Scholars;

Peter Maxwell Davies:  “Farewell to Stromness”, played by the composer;  and the same piece played on the guitar by Sean Shibe;

Chopin:  the “Largetto” from his “Piano Concerto No 1 in E minor”, played by Marta Argerich;

Elgar:  an excerpt from his “Cello Concerto in E minor, Op 85”, played by Colin Carr.

The November meeting, on Monday, 4th, will be held at Kate’s house, and Angela has chosen the theme “Movement”.
