PHOTOGRAPHY GROUP 1 - JUNE 9th 2021
by Tim Wright - 11:36 on 15 June 2021
Today 11 of us met for the first time in 15 months at Marwick Bay .The forecast was for rain but in the event this did not start until some of us were having a picnic at the Fishermen's Huts .The first thing to photograph was the Shelduck family posing on the rocks in front of the car park .Alongside them there was a creche of Eider Ducks .Some people then went to the Huts or along the bay but 4 of us went up on to the cliffs and around by the Kitchener Memorial Tower .What a lot to see .A little group of Puffins ,a Wheatear ,patrolling Bonxies plus the masses of Guillemots and Razor Bills on the ledges .The Sea Pinks were out in profusion and lots of Bumble Bees were buzzing about .At the Fishermen's Huts Swallows were nesting in one of the huts and were wheeling in and out as we were eating lunch .They were very difficult to photograph on the wing but one perched inside long enough for a photo. We were hoping to look at and discuss the Freedom photos but time and weather made this impossible .I will bring the aide memoir again next time for everyone to see .
The next meeting will be day trip to Hoy taking cars across on the 10.15 boat and coming back on the 16.40 boat. This would be for Wednesday 7th July .As it is in the school holidays it might be busy. I think one is obliged to book and pay in advance. With that in mind please contact me for further information.
The planned monthly project is "Close Up". The usual 5 photos by 1st July .
