Music Appreciation Group - One - July

by Glenys - 13:07 on 29 August 2022

Music Appreciation Group One

Three members of the group met at Glenys’s house on Monday, 4 July, the theme for this month
being: Composers, musicians and compositions beginning with the letter ‘T’. Having found, during
Covid lockdown, how enjoyable it was to watch, as well as listen, to orchestras and/or soloists
performing via YouTube, the group has now decided to continue in this way, but together, rather
than in isolation! Being able to watch/listen on a large smart TV makes this an even more enjoyable
pursuit. The following excerpts were played:
Germaine TAILLEFERRE: ‘Piano Trio’ – Morgenstern Trio;
Evgeny Kissin – TRÄUMEREI/Reverie (Kinderszenen, Op 15 No 7), by Robert Schumann –
Schubert Soirée; plus
Schumann’s “Träumerei” at the correct, authentic tempo as indicated by Schumann;
TIPPETT: ‘Four Spirituals’ (‘A Child of our Time’) – Leonard Slatkin conducting;
TIMSHEL by Mumford & Sons (arr. Jim Clements), VOCES8;
Christopher TYE (1505-1572) – Consortium5 play ‘Three in Nomines’;
Francisco TÁRREGA’s ‘Tango Maria’, Pepe Romero;
THEODORAKIS, ‘Zorba the Greek’ (film score and also ShakallisDance2019/Just Dance);
TERESA Berganza sings ‘Arietta alla spagnola’, by Rossini;
TCHAIKOVSKY – ‘Violin Concerto in D major’ – Joshua Bell;
TCHAIKOVSKY –‘Piano Concerto No 1 in B flat minor’ – Liberace;
THE THREE TENORS (Carreras,Domingo, Pavarotti) – ‘Nessun dorma’ (Turandot);

The next meeting will be on Monday, 1 August, the theme being: Composers, or compositions,
beginning with the letters ‘U’ and ‘V’.
