U3A Music Appreciation Group One - October 2022

Members of Music Appreciation Group One met on Monday, October 3rd, for a morning celebrating the letter ‘W’ – either composers, musicians or compositions. A very enjoyable two hours ensued, with the following music being played:

Oliver WENDELL HOLMES:  Thou Gracious Power, sung by The King Singers and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir:

Yuja WANG:  Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No 3 in C major, Op 26, played by the Verbier Festival Orchestra, conducted by Gianandrea Noseda;

WERNER Van Schnitzler, playing Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen;

Dab WIRÉN:  Serenade for Strings, Op 11, played by the English Chamber Orchestra;

Robert WILKINSON:  Salve Regina (from the Eton Song Book);

Peter WARLOCK:  Capriol Suite en 9, played by the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra;

John WILBYE:  I Fagiolini singing Weep, weep, mine eyes:

Errollyn WALLEN:  Photography:

Kyung Wha Chung, playing WILLIAM WALTON’s Viola Concerto, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by André Previn:

George WALKER:  Lyric for Strings, played by Daniel Hope with the New Century Orchestra;

Robin WILLIAMSON:  October Song, sung by The Corries.

The next meeting will be on Monday, 7 November.  Members will be selecting music by composers, musicians or compositions beginning with the letters X, Y and Z.
