U3A Walking Group - October 2022

by Tim Wright - 15:54 on 13 October 2022

Nine of us met at the Kitchener Memorial Car Park this morning. It was dry with little wind and a hint of sun at times. We set off along the cliff towards the Palace at Birsay. The sea was showing a good swell and the waves were crashing into the rocks below us. On the Links Beach in Birsay a group of Seals were hauled up and they barely moved as we walked only 50 yards away from them. Further along the beach, Turnstones, Sanderling and Ring Plover were searching the tide line for food.

Bacon Rolls form the shop were on some minds as we arrived in the village but the shop was shut despite a prominent "Open" sign .We made do with our picnic supplies plus a contribution from the Honesty Box. It was a thoroughly enjoyable walk, made especially so by the failure of the weather to throw a spanner in the works.

The next walk will be Friday 11 th November.

Keep moving, Tim.
