u3a Walking Group One - Newark, Deerness - 17 January,2025

by Tim Wright - 04:37 on 18 January 2025

Eleven of us met at the slipway at Newark in Deerness. After days of changing forecasts for the day, the wind was moderate, falling light eventually, dry and warm for January at 10C. We set off across the beach track to the far side where we opted for the shore path toward the Point of Ayre rather than the road up to the left. The path is a little uneven underfoot and slippery in the wet but as it was dry all made it to the picnic bench unscathed. We did not carry on to the Point of Ayre but turned left up the road towards Lighthouse Corner. Then it was across the road at Lighthouse  corner towards the Gin Distillery Cafe. A nice 3.25 miles followed by Soup and sandwiches for most and booster coffees as well. Then it was into the pre parked return cars back to the Slip to fetch the rest of the transport. A nice morning's activity to start 2025 made even more satisfying by the rain and mist starting on the way home to Kirkwall.

The next walk will be Thursday 27th Feb .Time and venue will be sent nearer the day depending on weather and wind conditions.

Keep moving,

Tim
