Music Appreciation Group

Meets on the first Monday of the month-at 10-30 a.m.
For our May meeting - a member had chosen " Women "s Voices" ,as our theme-and we ,as usual,enjoyed listening to a varied mix-
Also ,as we always do-we were introduced to new ( to some of us)artists and musical knowledge.
among the items we listened to were---
Jean Redpath-singing Burns songs
Leontyne Price,Eva Cassidy,Kathleen Ferrier,Gina Cigna,Mahalia Jackson,and Montserrat Cabelle.
One of our members sang for us a song she had translated from the Spanish by Frey Luis de Leon-she has a lovely voice and it was the highlight of the meeting-
We also listened to Emma Kirkby ,music by Hildagaard of BingenJessie Norman,and Joan Baez.
Each of the members talk about their choice-a bit of background ,why they chose it-and some interesting facts .
Our next meeting is in June -the 5th -when our choice is still "Women"-but widening the theme to composers as well as instrumentalists and voices.
We are hoping some new members of the U3A will come and "try us out".
