by Angela & Allan - 11:28 on 12 February 2018
We last met on 5th Feb. and our topic was "Sonatas"-(a composition of 3 or 4 movements designed chiefly for a solo instrument)-
We started our session with a discussion of what a Sonata is and its developement in Italy-from the Renaissance onwards-and its emergance in works by Gabrieli ,Montiverdi ,Farina and Corelli-
Amomg the items we listened to were---
Sonata for two pianos by Mozart in D major-this has another interest as it was used in the scientific study that tested the theory of the " Mozart effect",suggesting that Classical music increases brain activity more positively than any other kinds of music.
Arcangelo Corelli
,born 1653-
Sonata for trumpet, with violin and cello-
Franz Schubert-piano sonata D959-
Also those by Tartini,Handel and Veracini-
After each item is played -we enjoy talking about it and ,as we all bring one or two pieces-we can share a bit of our knowledge-
Our next meeting is on the 5th March-at 10-30 a m, when our theme will be "Dance",and it is in Orphir-
We welcome anyone who would like to try us out!
