Music Appreciation Group One

The current full complement of Music Appreciation Group One met for the first time since Covid lockdowns were introduced in 2020 on Monday, 7th February. The meeting was held at Glenys’s house, and it was a delight being able to enjoy each other’s company and, once again, listen to wonderful music as a group. The theme of “Composers, musicians or compositions beginning with the letter ‘R’, resulted in the following selections:

ROMEO and Juliet, “Soundtrack of the film”;
Josef Gabriel RHEINBURGER, “String quartet No 2 in F major, Op 147– Adagio”, Camerata Quartet;
RUSSELL Watson, “Panis Angelicus”;
Maurice RAVEL, “Sonatine – Animé, pianist Artur Pizarro;

Sviatoslav RICHTER, Cesar Franck’s “Piano Quintet in F”, played by the Borodin Quartet;

Sergei RACHMANINOV, “Symphony No 2 in E minor, Op.27”, BBC Philharmonic conducted by Edward Downes:
Nikolai RIMSKY-KORSAKOV, “Procession of the Nobles” from “Mlada”, played by the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Richard Hayman.
The next meeting, to be held on Monday, 7th March, will again be at Glenys’s house, and the theme will be: Composers, or compositions, beginning with the letter ‘S’.
