Photography Group 1

by Tim - 23:34 on 11 January 2023

12 of us met today in Kirkwall Bowling Alley Car Park for a brief walk around the town taking photos .We had an hour to look for things or places over 100 years old .The briefness of the outing was due to the poor forecast .Unfortunately the Weather Men had it right and our hour was liberally sprinkled water and in fact managed deluge proportions at times . Most headed to the Cathedral with a few around the Earl's Palace and the Bishop's Palace .Some people went looking in the graveyard for the 30th Feb date on a tombstone and for John Rae's real grave .Others were in Tankerness gardens and in the Town Hall . Plenty of photos were taken despite the rain .Then it was off to the Kirkwall Hotel for an excellent lunch .Most found the "Lite BItes" were in fact quite heavy and one person resorted to a doggy bag even though she has no dog !

Discussion on the Project Subject suggested Hearts as we are coming up to Valentine's Day just before the next meeting . However it is rather restricted so the Project will be " Hearts and/ or Clubs". Golfers and Bridge player will be pleased but look for variations on those themes .

The next meeting will be in Stromness on Wednesday 8th February .More details nearer the time .

In the meantime I have been up to Highland Park which was also a suggested venue .The Free tours only go on until Saturday 21 st Jan .They will only take 10 people at a time .I have indicated that next Wednesday 18th Jan at 10 am would be ideal .They are distilling at present . So the first nine people to indicate they want to come can join me on a trip around Highland Park.Let me know asap so I can confirm our booking .
