Walking Group - 3rd October 2025

by Tim Wright - 20:34 on 03 October 2025

Dear Everyone ,

The forecast for the week had been difficult to work out but in the event seven of us eventually met at the Slipway at Newark beach in Deerness. We were rewarded with bright Autumnal sun and a 15 mph SW wind. We set off across the beach passing over the burn which showed no real rise despite the rain of the night before. Sanderling were scurrying in and out of the water and 3 Bar Tailed Godwits flew by. Then it was along the shore track which has benefited from the good Summer as most of the rough stones are now grass covered. The marshy patch at the far end was dry saving a further rocky diversion. Then up the hill and past Carnarvon turning left to Mabel's house .Her garden still had plenty of flowers out but how many will still be there come Monday?  Her beautiful pale Orange Rose in her green house should survive though. Then it was back down to the beach to the cars .We had lunch at the Deerness Distillery just as the skies started to darken. A delightful 3.5 mile walk between gales.

The next walk will be Friday 14th November as I am away early November.

Keep moving,

Tim.
