Walk to Arcadia Park - October 22nd 2025

by Tim Wright - 15:07 on 24 October 2025

Eight of us met this morning on a sunny but windy day at Arcadia Park. There were lots of trees to photograph but after the latest lot of gales there was little in the way of leaves on them. However there were still quite a few flowers around on the margins of the paths where they had been sheltered. There were two interesting Sculptures with Mice running all over them plus a large Spider upon one too. So plenty to photograph but a place to revisit in the summer when it will look a little less bedraggled. Then we set off for Scapa Beach. The tide was right in and the wind was very brisk down there compared to being in Arcadia Park. A lone swimmer was getting a good wash in the waves and I am sure her brain will be benefitting a great deal. The rest of us decided to watch this fascinating new way of reducing dementia risks while remaining dry and warm and avoiding any follow up pneumonia! A lot of dead Guillemots were on the tide line but a hardy Ring Plover and Red Shank were holding on along towards the distillery. Then it was off to Glue's for coffee, cake  and chat.

The next meeting will be on Wednesday 26th November. This is later than we initially thought but I have my vaccines on 19th. The plan is to go to Olaf's Wood in South Ronaldsay and down to Windwick to see if there are any Seal Pups to be seen by then. We hope to go to The Sands for lunch. It will all be weather dependent of course.

The closing date for photos remains as Monday 17th for the Project which is "Shrubs and Trees " and for the trip out today. So 5 photos to me for the Shrubs and Trees and 5 photos to David for the trip out today to Arcadia Park.

If you are in the hospital do remember that two of our members are inpatients at present. Sally Mackintosh and Yvonne are both making progress towards Home but will be in for a while yet. I am sure they would look forward to visitors.
