u3a Walking Group 1 - 27 February, 2026 - Scapa

After the leader had sent the meeting point for today's walk to the Photography Group instead of the Walking Group and only realised his mistake late last night he was surprised to see 16 members at the Picky Car Park at 10.30 . We set off past the Rugger Club and the new St Rognavld's House in lovely sunny weather but with a brisk SW wind .We headed up the path to upper Glaitness Road ,crossing over to take a couplel of tractor paths to Corse Farm . Down the side road past the Old St Rognavl's house ,soon to be redundant ,and Andersquoy we turned left onto Old Scapa Road to the path that leads to the Crantit Trail ..Arriving at Scapa Beach we opted to walk to the waterfall below the Distillery ,which was in spate . Things turned interesting there as one of the group felt faint . After sitting down and having some food , he was moved to the grassy knoll above the tide line to await transport by James to the Casualty . Some of the group elected to make their way back to the Picky while others preferred to sit in the sun in the shelter of the cliff to provide moral support to help if needed . When James had taken the patient off ,the rest of us set off back to Picky via the Orphir Road and thence to Glaitness Road ,along the path by Glaitness House to the Centre . There six of us had sandwiches and Rocky Road wich about summed up our morning's excursion . A lovely 6 mile hike on mostly flat roads in excellent walking weather so a fine way to finish my stint as walk leader . Thank you to every one who helped with the emergency situation which all ended well in the end .
No one seemed to want to take on my role but in discussion afterwards Ellie decided to start having her walks on Fridays instead of Mondays after her walk next week . Fridays seem to suit people better .I have not BCCd my walking list today . She will have a look and add the names from it, who are not already on her list, to her Walking Group email . If you don't want o be included in her walks please let her know .I shall continue to walk with her so hope to see you there . In the meantime it has been great leading the walks and seeing you all but now I am passing the baton on .
