u3a Walking Group 2 - 2 March, 2026 - Orphir

by Ellie Wiltshire - 16:41 on 03 March 2026

On Monday, March 2nd, a group of fifteen gathered at Orphir Church beneath clear blue skies and plenty of sunshine—there was not a hint of rain. Our plan was to take a walk to Swanbister’s old pier. We began with a half-mile stretch along the main road, then veered right onto a minor road riddled with potholes that led us down to the farm. There, the farmhouse grounds displayed a small wood filled with blooming snowdrops, a sure sign that spring had arrived. Just before reaching the gate leading to the track toward the pier, we encountered a very muddy section. With the tide in, the sea looked fantastic, making it the perfect day for a coastal walk. When we reached the pier, the weather was so fine that we chose to continue further along the coast. We followed the coastal path, which was quite wet in spots, and after another mile left the main route for a grassy path heading toward a small car park. Finally, we joined a minor road and walked back to our cars for our usual coffee and cake. Altogether, we covered 4.5 miles with sunshine accompanying us all the way. It was a good walk with great company.

Our next walk will take place on Monday, April 6th; more details to be sent nearer the date.
