u3a Walking Group - Harray - 4 May, 2026

by Ellie Wiltshire - 10:48 on 08 May 2026

Although the weather forecast for our walk on Monday 4th May predicted light rain and wind, twelve of us still met at Harry Hall for a five-mile circular walk. On leaving the car park we walked a short distance to Harry Kirk (St Michael’s), then followed green lanes to the loch of Bosquoy. After a brief and blustery stop, we continued along the path to the main road. Crossing over and turning left, the next section was on a minor road and farm track towards Corrigal Farm Museum— sadly, now closed.  The wind and rain eased on our return journey following green lanes and minor roads with super views over Harray loch.  Back to the cars for coffee and cake.

Date of forthcoming Walks

Friday 15th May at 10.00am Ruth will be leading a 4.7 mile walk to the top of Wideford Hill.

The start will be from Ruth’s house Skelray, - head along Sunnybank Road (from either end) and look for the Blackhill road sign pointing up the hill, the sign is by a bus stop and an old fridge. Continue ALL the way to the end of the tarmac road, and Skelray is on the left.  Plenty of room for parking & toilets available.

The walk initially heads down past the old Kirkwall reservoir before climbing to the top of Wideford via the shoulder (so a gentle ascent). The return is via the Wideford cairn, and then a short way down the Wideford road before returning to Skelray via fields.

Most of the walk on the hill is via well-worn tracks through the heather, a few potentially boggy spots (if it rains a lot between now and the 15th), and short sections on tracks/lanes.
For more information or directions please contact Ruth via u3a website.
