We are based in the Orkney Islands, off the north coast of Scotland. KDDL was formed in 1967. We are the longest established and largest darts association in the islands and we are run by an elected committee.

Many of the teams in our leagues play in Kirkwall however teams from around Orkney are welcome to join, for example we have teams from Shapinsay, Sanday, Tankerness, Deerness, Holm, Burray and St Margaret's Hope taking part.

Our darts season runs from September until May, with A league matches generally taking place on Monday nights and B league games played on Tuesday nights.

As well as these fixtures we also play for a number of cups, in various formats throughout the season, which includes team games as well as singles and doubles matches. Most cup games and other competitions are held on Friday nights.

During the league we have six man teams and play two doubles and four singles matches in each half of each match. At half time the card is re-written however captains can bring in their reserves in either half. This means that each league match is the best of 12 games, consisting of 4 doubles and eight singles games.

We also play representative matches in the year. We take on our Shetland rivals in the annual inter-county match. We also play an annual match against the West Mainland Darts League.

At various times we hold charity fundraising darts events for many different good causes.

In March we hold the annual Kirkwall Open, the biggest prizemoney competition of the year, which attracts players from Orkney, Shetland and Caithness, as well as from further afield.

The league is run by a committee who are selected at the AGM and meet on a regular basis throughout the season.

The 2024-25 committee is: president Robbie Norquoy; vice-president Kevin Sarling; treasurer David Henderson; secretary Brian Moar. Committee members: Craig Taylor, Ian Linklater, Mark Shearer, Robbie Stanger and Martin Peace.

Honorary League Presidents: Jim Scollie, Jimmy Miller & Eddie Craigie.
