It was the cricket format of darts cups to play for in the KDDL last week, and it was a real mixed bag in terms of attendances at each, with the eagerness to play from the young boys putting many of the seasoned players to shame.
An abysmal entry of only three 'A' teams saw the Lynnfield cup being played as two rounds of a round robin, with the Orkney Golf Club coming out on top. However, 9 teams entered the Foubister Cup for 'B' teams the following evening, admittedly made up of smaller teams, but it was great to see they were mostly the younger members of the league. Young Loons C put up a valiant fight, but in the final the experience of the Wanderers saw them lift the trophy
Having obviously enjoyed their taste of this different format, the same youngsters all showed up on Friday evening for the Cricket Singles and Doubles, which attracted a healthy entry of 22 singles and 11 pairs. Brian Moar and Keith Brumpton made steady progress to the final but found Craig Taylor and Robbie Stanger too hot to handle, winning by three legs to nil. Meanwhile it was a family affair in the Singles final, with Bruce Moar squaring up to brother Andrew, both of whom had thrown some excellent darts to reach that stage. Unfortunately for Andrew, Bruce was in an uncompromising mood and comfortably won three nil. Another fun evening of darts and it was great to see the hunger by the young players who stayed on to play games of killer once they were all out.
180s were scored by: Josh Alexander, Keith Brumpton, Kevin Gray, Brian Moar, Robbie Stanger and Jamie Tulloch, with Bruce Moar hitting a score of 174. Four players hit 6 wickets (3 x bullseye) in one throw, they were: Aaron Mitchell, David Shearer, Josh Alexander and Jamie Tulloch.
