With League matches now underway, the Swanney Cup rounded off this season's team cups last Monday evening and there was a pleasing entry this time of 9 teams. As is often the case these days, the teams were split into two groups with the top teams contesting the final.

Four of the five 'A' league teams involved were drawn together in the group of death, with Sanday progressing by winning all of their games. In the other group, the Exiles were clear favourites and again won all their matches, although they were pushed hard by the Wanderers.

The final was a pretty one sided affair. Sanday did miss a few chances at doubles, but the Exiles deservedly won out 3-1 in the end.

Then on Friday evening the future talent of Orkney darts got their chance to shine in the under 30's Open Singles. 22 players entered, not all of whom are currently registered to teams, and there were some interesting tussles throughout the night. With defending champ Jamie Tulloch not entering, Josh Alexander was the only previous winner taking part. He made it through to the semi-finals but narrowly lost out to Nicol Gray. Meanwhile Kieran Doherty was continuing to show his steady improvement in the other half of the draw, beating Aidan Robertson a little more comfortably in their semi.

Unfortunately for Kieran, he found Nicol in an unforgiving mood as he continued his early season run of form to take the title 4-0. All in all, it was an encouraging evening for the future of the sport in the county.
